4. తాను ఒక దినప్రయాణము అరణ్యములోనికి పోయి యొక బదరీవృక్షముక్రింద కూర్చుండి, మరణా పేక్షగలవాడైయెహోవా, నా పితరులకంటె నేను ఎక్కువవాడను కాను, ఇంతమట్టుకు చాలును, నా ప్రాణము తీసికొనుము అని ప్రార్థనచేసెను.

4. తరువాత ఒక రోజంతా ప్రయాణం చేసి ఏలీయా ఎడారిలోకి వెళ్లాడు. ఏలీయా ఒక పొదకింద కూర్చున్నాడు. అతడు చని పోవాలని కోరుకున్నాడు. ఏలీయా యెహోవానిలా ప్రార్థించాడు: “ప్రభువా, నాకిది చాలు. ఇక నన్ను చనిపోనియ్యండి. నా పూర్వికుల కంటె నేను ఉన్నతమైనవాడిని కాను.”
